Scott Currens, Scott Blair, Amos Magliocco, Scott Eubanks, the Weathervine crew, and myself targeted eastern Kansas for supercells later that afternoon.


HP Supercell - Emporia, Kansas
Storms fired near Emporia and quickly became outflow dominant. The shelf structure was decent, but mostly the lightning was amazing! When we finally called it a night we drove north back to I-35 northeast of Emporia and encountered severe winds. We measured 60mph sustained winds for about 12 minutes and had gusts of 70 mph. This resulted in the closure of the I-35 eastbound lane due to semi-trucks being blown over and debris scattered on the highway.
